Outdoor recreation is one of main attractions of this area. Area state parks at Tallulah Gorge, Black Rock Mountain, Unicoi and Smithgall Woods offer activities for all ages including miles of biking and hiking trails, lodging for retreats, camping, trout fishing and breathtaking waterfalls. Thousands of visitors paddle the wild and scenic Chattooga River each year.

Both the Sautee-Nacoochee Center and the Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center offer rich cultural experiences that help us appreciate the sense of community and hospitality that define our mountain heritage.

If you appreciate art then you must visit the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art in Demorest and the Helen Arts and Heritage Center.  Take the Scenic 197 Moonshine Highway and stop at Mark of the Potter, a pottery cooperative housed in the Historic Watts Mill a must see destination, not only for the pottery, but to see the enormous trout that live beside the mill in the Soque River.
